Experts have dubbed South Luangwa to be one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, and not without reason. The concentration of animals around the Luangwa River, and its oxbow lagoons, is among the most intense in Africa.

Eastern Province Minister, Honorable Makebi Zulu has called for marketing of South Luangwa National Park. He said this in a meeting with stakeholders in Mumbi district today. The Minister called for stakeholders to brainstorm on ways that South Luangwa can be made visible internationally. He acknowledged that tourism is the next best thing to agriculture.

South Luangwa has 100 animal species with 480 bird types and is home to the rare ‘thornicroft’ giraffe found only in Zambia. The park has a population of 24,000 hippos and 15,000 elephants.
