Zambian soccer fans have questioned the wisdom of Sports Minister Moses Mawere and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga on their dinning with Algerian Officials 24hours before Zambia’s crucial return leg with Algeria.
Zambia pulled off an excellent performance in their first leg encounter with Algeria via 3-1 score line. Zambia’s Chipolopolo scored three times with a brace via debutant Brian Mwila before Enoch Mwepu’s low cut shot sealed the game for the Chipolopolo side. Algeria scored their lone goal through experienced campaigner, Yacine Brahimi.
But FAZ posted a photo with a caption “Fair play on and off the pitch. The Algerian government organised a welcome dinner for our National team and the entire delegation which was led by Sports Minister Moses Mawere and FAZ president Andrew Kamanga”.
The crucial game against Algeria is considered by die hard Chipolopolo fans a matter of ‘war’ and a must win to re-ignite Zambia’s chance of making the maiden Russia 2018 World Cup. It is however unclear if the players accommodation, food and drinks provisions have been secured looking at the attitude of the delegation leaders.
Football is now a very technical, tactical and even Psychological game. Players and officials are therefore expected to take pre-cautions and not play into the hands of their rivals. Some soccer fans have questioned why such an event could not be held after the game to have both the administration and technical bench focus on the game at hand. Tell us your views, do you think it’s prudent for Mawere and Kamanga to engage in dinners with their rivals before the game?
