Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Mukuli Chikuba says Zambia will present a program to the International Monetary Fund – IMF board by year-end after Zambia and IMF resume talks at meetings in October. The annual World Bank/ IMF meeting will convene this October. Mr. Chikuba told reporters that the Ministry of Finance has addressed most of the structural issues and agreed to them. Outstanding issues concern “spending plans for the rest of 2017 and getting into the medium term,” including borrowing plans.
The Bank of America had earlier in a note said Zambia Won’t Get An IMF Deal Until first half of next year.
The Ministry of Finance yesterday released H1: 2017 external and domestic debt figures which indicated a 7.63% rise in external debt to $7.43billion.
